Shanghai...

was an awesome city, despite the fact that it rained pretty much the whole time and the Bund (one of its key attractions) was getting dug up ahead of the World Expo next year. Caitlin and I went off the beaten track and spent most of the time seeking out quirky things to do. So we went to the wrongly named "Bird & Flower market" and studied groups of men helping each other pick out crickets with the best sound (the best way to get them to make a noise is through poking them with a little stick). We also went to the Propaganda Poster Museum, which was tougher to find that the most secret of private clubs ("go to the security guard on this address, he will give you a card that shows you the way to our building, press B for basement in the lift and then...). It was worth it though, it was the most interesting collection of posters from the Mao era with slogans like "Long live the victory of the cultural revolution". We also did the more given stuff like having a cocktail at the M on the Bund and went and saw a great acrobatics show.
