Settled in...
I have now done two days of teaching "on my own"... and it's been a pretty interesting challenge. It is fun... utterly exhausting (esp my 2pm which has a few very naughty trouble-makers in it), but largely pretty fun. The exhausting bit is that there's a lot of very loud voices (read: screaming) going on. I'm basically teaching kids that are completely new to English (the school opened 3 weeks ago) without a translator. We communicate through body language and repetition, a lot of repetition... and the repetition gets louder and louder, and then i start whispering, which they eventually follow. I almost lost my voice today.... which would obviously make things a bit difficult.
All in, the kids are (generally) amazing. They love learning, every little new thing or game is welcomed with such enthusiasm (even doing the same thing over and over again is met with enthusiasm), they come running towards us when we come walking back from lunch yelling "teacher, teacher!", they proudly show me when they've written what i asked of them in their little notebook, they return every little pencil and crayon even if they happened to bring it home overnight... And every day there are new kids turning up... and from tomorrow we have to start turning them away cause the school is now full.
Hej Fanny,
