We have managed to settle into Hoi An, a great living museum of a town on the coast of Central Vietnam. Its rained on us for a bit, but the sun is currently shining and the rain did not stop us, big purple ponchos in tow, from wandering around the markets, roam the narrow little lanes, enjoy some truly impressive food and head out to an old Cham ruin... and today we even made it to the beach on our rented bikes (5km away from town). The Cham ruin, My Son, was phenomenal. I have to say that the 430am wake up call just to hear the rain pouring down outside made the idea of 'beating the crowds' nothing more than something that seemed like a good idea at the time. An hour and a half later I had forgotten about the early morning and was loving the grass covered old ruins. Sadly out of the 70 structures that were discovered before the Vietnam War, only 20 escaped irreparable damage... The beach near Hoi An is massive, wide and long, filled with fishermen going about their business, no too exploited (although they did try to charge me nearly $2 for a coconut!!!! seriously!?) and we even managed to experience a Vietnamese flasher. I do understand how tourists end up staying another day in Hoi An. It's been lovely here. However, tomorrow we're set to head further south again"
